Pawel Pawlikowski's "Cold War" (2018) is a majestic, romantic drama. The film's timeline spans from the late 1940's through to the mid 1960's.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully shot in Black and White and framed to a 1:33:1 ratio, it is reminiscent of the aesthetic look of earlier cinema movements such as; Italian Neo-Realism and Film Noir.
Essentially "Cold War" is a love story between Musician Wiktor (Tomasz Kot) and his protege; Singer Zula (Joanna Kulig), both are excellent in their respective roles.
The narrative follows the characters journeys from Poland to Paris and back.
Historically it captures the transitional landscape of post war Europe; Poland; a nation of musical and cultural heritage in the process of rebuilding, contrasts with the bohemian ambience of 1950's Paris; stylistic, elegant an Art and Cultural mecca!
Musically the film has a rich soundtrack featuring traditional folk, Jazz, Blues and Pop music as the characters follow their careers.
I feel this is a fine film and worth the effort viewing?
